Wedding Cake Trends for 2013
Just as everything else, wedding cake trends are always changing. You can look at a cake from the 80’s and know it was a wedding cake from that decade.
When deciding on your wedding cake, the inside is just as important as the outside. Chocolate, vanilla, and red velvet will always be the most popular flavors. However, 2013 trends include tropical flavors such as mango or passion fruit. One trend that is still going strong is the trend to do different flavors for each layer. This is very popular among guests as there is sure to be a flavor to please everyone. My husband and I had a destination wedding, so it was almost impossible for us to fly to the destination just to sample the different flavors of cakes. We love cake of any flavor, so there wasn’t a real clear choice for us. It was important to us that everyone would enjoy the cake, but we didn’t want anything too ordinary either. I asked my wedding planner for some advice, and he said there was one clear winner in his mind. He said it had nothing to do with his own personal favorite; it was more of what he saw. At that time, he said that the vanilla cake with white chocolate and raspberry filling rarely ever came back to the kitchen with any cake left on the plate. Sounded yummy to us, so we went for it. For years after our wedding, I would get emails from friends planning their own wedding and asking us the flavor of our wedding cake. So that was obviously a good choice.
After you decide on the flavor, the silhouette and style are the next choice and probably the most trend effected decision. This is where you can get creative and your personal style can really shine. For 2013, the trend seems to be tall and thin with varying heights for the layers. The style for 2013 is still clean and simple. A bright, beautiful wedding cake is taking center stage at everyone’s 2013 wedding. A beautiful bow or flower on a clean simple cake is the look that most couples are going for.
Fall weddings can still take place outside under a beautiful white tent. The tent rentals in Philadelphia offer heaters to keep the guests warm. For more information on a tent rental in Doylestown, please visit www.tents-events.com.
