Planning Your Company Holiday Party

Whether you own the company, or you have been put in charge of the event, planning the company holiday party is no small task.  It can, in fact, be overwhelming and start to take over your day job.

In 2008, when economic times were not good for many companies, a lot of holiday parties were either cancelled all together, or drastically scaled down.  Even if company was one of the lucky ones that the economy wasn’t affecting too much, they scaled down their parties out of respect.  People had mixed feelings on this subject, but nonetheless, times were difficult and many companies didn’t feel like celebrating.  Since then, every year (and very gradually) companies have started celebrating the holidays again by throwing a party for their employees.  I am not sure they will ever be what they were for most corporations, but still, things are looking up.  The person in charge is now getting biggest bang for their buck and really tracking every penny spent.  You don’t have to spend millions of dollars to throw a holiday party that your employees will appreciate and enjoy.  You just have to spend your money wisely.

There are 3 basic items you need to consider: venue, food, and entertainment.

Venue: The venue can be anything from your own office, to a restaurant, banquet hall, or even some place unique like a bowling alley.  Depending on the number of people at your company, and the overall vibe of your office, you will have a good idea of what the employees would enjoy most.

Food: If you have the party at a restaurant, then you don’t have to worry about finding an outside company to cater the food.  But, if you choose a venue that doesn’t provide food, then take your time when looking for a catering company.  Employees expect good food and you don’t want to disappoint.  So take your time to find a catering company with great references while still being affordable.  They exist so you just need to do a little research.

Entertainment:  Music is very important to any party.  If you don’t have the funds for a DJ, then don’t forget your own MP3 player, a speaker, and some good music.  Good music can really make a party great!
